Basic Columns

Add columns to your sheet from the Data Editor

Basic Columns are distinct from User-specific columns as they can only hold one value. Basic columns can live in your Data Source and Glide Tables.

You can view and edit your app's data in your Data Source or in the Data Editor.

Glide creates different column types in the Data Editor based on the types of Data it finds in your sheet. You can see the result of this in the column icons of the data editor.

Above we can see: Phone, Email, Image, Link, Date, Number, Emoji and Rich Text column types.

Adding Basic Columns

You can use the data editor to add columns to your Data Source by selecting Basic Column in the add column dialogue box.

This can also be useful if you don't want to leave the data editor to add new columns, but it is also beneficial if you want Glide to recognize a column type when that column doesn't have data.

Changing Basic Column Type

You also can edit the column type of your Basic Column.

To do this, click on the drop-down button to the right side of the column header and click on Edit. From there, you can change the column type to any of the basic column options provided.

Making Basic Columns User-specific

You can also make the Basic Columns you add in the Data Editor a User-Specific Column. This means that the column won't live in your sheet anymore, but allows the data in that column to be specific to each user. Read more 👇
